National Auto Collection: The Schlumpf Collection - late vintage


1925 Amilcar biplace sportster CGS.

Two classic 30s sportscars - a Bugatti and a Mercedes-Benz.

1929 Mercedes-Benz 720SSK. The rare SSK sportscars fetch incredible prices in the multi-millions.

1927 Mercedes-Benz torpedo 400.

1933 Mercedes-Benz 380 cabriolet.

The classic 1937 Mercedes-Benz 290.

1928 and 1929 Horch limousines. Although only a year apart, the 1929 model looks much more advanced and streamlined.

A row of Bugatti's.

1931 Alfa Romeo cabriolet 8C32 and a Bugatti.

1931 O.M. 655 MM roadster, from Italy, and another Bugatti.

1938 Bugatti cabriolet 575.

A 1946 Swallow Sports Jaguar 100. After the War Swallow Sports' SS logo, which was inscribed in a very Germanic Gothic script had to go. Swallow Sports swapped the company and model names around and the Jaguar SS100 was born.



Cars of the 1930s.


1926 Adler sedan. Adler built cars and motorcycles through the 1930s until the mid 1950s. It then ceased all car manufacture in favour of typewriters.

Mercedes-Benz' contribution to the evolution of the 'volks-wagen.' The M-B 170 'heck-motor.' Both Ferdinand Porsche and Josef Ganz were involved in the design. It wasn't a success however, with both poor engine performance and chronic instability.

The 1934 Citroen Traction Avant. A truly great French car and one of the pioneers of front wheel drive (along with DKW).

A highly customised late 30s Bugatti. It looks startlingly modern.
