The Need For Speed - Red Bull Hangar 7

What do you do if you are the multi-millionaire Austrian owner of a high energy sports drink with a fetish for speed? Well, you build yourself a state-of-the-art hanger complex at Salsburg airport and fill it with everything that interests you. Dietrich Mateschitz' Hanger Seven complex is certainly very impressive. It has a great collection of aircraft and a fine restaurant. Here is a link to the website -http://www.hangar-7.com/

Lithuanian Vintage Car Rally

We happened to be in Vilnius in September 2009 and saw a classic car rally. The cars had travelled through the Baltics, Finland, Russia and Poland. The classic cars were primarily ex-Soviet machines and came from Germany, Russia, the Baltics and Scandinavia.

The rally progressed down Gedimino Prospekto, the main thoroughfare of Vilnius.

Gaz 21s and Moskvitches were of course very popular

The finish line!

Percy Markham Collection Auction Catalogue 1990

In 1990 the Western Australian government sold off a significant part of the Percy Markham car collection, which had earlier been donated to the West Australian Museum. The decision to sell the collection was quite controversial. 11 of the 12 cars auctioned were Percy's cars. Two of the cars are still with the Motoring Museum, the 1898 Star and the 1911 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Laudaulet.

For details of the controversial sale, see this paper by Dr Pauline Joseph: https://espace.curtin.edu.au/handle/20.500.11937/42749

The Percy Markham Collection at the WA Museum is documented here:

I'd like to thank motoring writer Paul Blank for sharing with me this copy of the auction catalogue.
